When she was born, her mother feared for her life. Baby Amulya, meaning “precious”, was beautiful to her mother. The extra skin tags surrounding her right ear and the cleft lip on the side of her mouth, however, created intense animosity to their family by the villagers. Amulya remained small for her age due to some feeding issues. Her family was not able to afford surgery to correct her lip, or remove the skin tags. When the time came to enter school, she was teased by her peers. She tried to continue in school, but eventually dropped out due to the torment. When her family brought her to the LWR medical camp, she was screened and scheduled for surgery. Today, Amulya is back in school, and her mother says she is so happy to be learning and playing with her peers at school!
